Six Rules for Success of Commercial Music

Six Rules for Success of Commercial Music

Article by Greg Culver

Commercial music is the vital part of the music industry. Different music artists have different views about the commercial music. Some consider pop as commercial while others think that music hit on a radio is commercial. Many music artists avoid working for commercial music as no one is clear about the perception and definition of commercial music. Most of the musicians have an impression that commercial music has forced the artists to compose songs that would be liked by the people. The main problem is that it is the public that determines the success of the music not the industry. Public decides which music is commercial and which is not a commercial.

Music artists try to focus on the type of music they want to produce instead of following the decision by the public. In the music industry it is for sure that the rules of commercial music will not change ever. People like familiar sound and dislikes new or unfamiliar music.

There are artists that focus on personal creations along with fulfilling commercial demands. There are very few such artists who have this much talent and expertise. I will offer my explanation and industry definition of what commercial music is for the sake of clarification and argument on the topic. The six rules of success of commercial music are as follows:

* The commercial music should have a good melody as most of the top selling hip-hop acts have good melody in them. It is the good melodies that enhance commercial value of their music.

* No one can request the song if they have not been advertised or told on the radio. You must make such an arrangement that people cannot download it form the internet for free.

* You must have appealing lyrics in your song or composition to connect the feelings of people and mentally relate them to the song. Write lyrics on a known matter and pen down the feelings with credibility and sincerity on paper. Such a song would be desired by the people in large quantities.

* The song or music should be produced properly. The commercial music is more stressed on the count that the music rock bands don’t utilize the time properly.

* Although it may help the singer to attract better songwriters to work with but if the song is lacking all of the yelling and vocal acrobatics that most of the singers tend to use to compensate for it will not make it a better song. If you have the best song but cannot sing properly then you a take the help of a talented singer to make it better.

* The best strategy is to keep the length of your songs down to a maximum of four minutes. The songs with good music and lyrics tend people to hear it again and again. Most of the people like short songs better than the longer songs.

You can use these six rules of commercial music success to gain success in the industry.
